CITY POLICE COURT.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) THREE CONVICTIONS. Kitty Stewart, for whor* Mr C. J. L. White appeared, was charged with wilfully breaking a pane of glass valued at 21s 6d, the property of Ah Poy, and with being found drunk in Maclaggan street, and further, that she was deemed to be a rogue and a vagabond without sufficient lawful means of support, having been previously convicted of being idle and disorderly—Mr White said she would plead guilty to the charge of drunkenness and not guilty to the other tvo charges.— Sergeant Wade said that he had known the defendant for some time. During the past sis months he had not known her to do any work. She frequented hotels and was addicted to drink. She associated with people of low repute and was living with a Chinaman.—Senior-sergeant Quartermain said he had known the defendant for about four years and a-half._ He corroborated what the previous witness had said.—Ah Poy, a Chinese, living in Carroll street, said he saw the defendant break a window at his place with her hand at about 6 o’clock on Novembei 4, — The defendant, in evidence, said she bad come to Dunedin abou'. fortnight ago. She had previously been living in Christchurch \vith another Chinese wdio had since sent her money, and a°ked her to come back. She also admitted having been living with another Chinese in Wellington.—The magistrate said she appeared to be drifting from one part of the Dominion to another. She would lv- alered to pay the value of the broken window (12s 6d). in default 24 hours' imprisonment; on the charge of drunkenness she would be fined 10s, in defa .lt 24 hours’ imprisonment, and on the third charge she would he sentenced to three months’ hard labour. REMANDED TILL FRIDAY.
