Court Pride of the Leith held its usual meeting on Wednesday last, when there was a large attendance of members under the charge of C.R. Bro. H. W. Cockburn. The meeting opened in mourning in memory of the late Bro. E. R. Robinson, and a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the deceased member was passed in silence, all upstanding. Teams were appointed to take pavt in the card tournament arranged by Court King Edward’s Pride. On behalf of Court Molyneux, P.D.C.R. Bro. T. F. M'Natty presented the collar of office to P.C.R. Bro. E. Craig, of that court, and the recipient returned thanks Three new members were admitted- Several members spoke in high terms of the very hospitable manner in which they had been treated by members of Court Pride of Clutha Valiev at the previous weekend, when 21 members visited that court. Leaving town on the Saturday prior to Labour Day, the party reached Clydevale, where it was entertained at a social dance. On Labour Day a cricket match between the two courts was played on the local sports ground, and proved a very successful and enjoyable function. Court Pride of the Leith batted first, and closed the innings when the board showed 155 runs for seven wickets, and Court Pride of Clutha valley responded with 141 runs, thus leaving the visitors the victors by 14 runs. During their stay at Clydevale members were billeted , among the local members, and a resolution of thanks and apprecia£jon the kindness received from the Clydevale members was passed. The trip will long be remembered by those members who made it, and it is hoped the event, will be an annual one. Following the close of the meeting members were entertained by the sitting officers at cards and harmony was contributed by Bros. C. Hawes, R. A. Alexander, J, Benfell. and D. S. Munro.

It was decided to invite Courts Robin Hood, Excelsior and King Edward’s Pride to next meeting. One new member was admitted before the meeting closed. C.R. Sister C. One new member was admitted, and three nominations received. Grand Secretary liro W. F. Crooke, accompanied by Bro. Powley. of Ontario, Canada, Past Representative Sovereign Grand Lodge and bpecial Deputy of Sovereign Grand Sire to Australasia, attended officially and were accorded the full honours of the Order- Bro. Powley, who is a member of sovereign Grand Lodge, expressed' his great pleasure at being present, this being his first visit to a lodge under the New Zealand jurisdiction. . As he is at present chairman of a special committee for re* vising the rituals, the speaker conveyed some valuable information in connection therewith. Bro. Powley touched on many aspects of Oddfellowship and recounted experiences of his own in the various lodges he had visited in different parts of the world. He expressed the hope that the members present might also have the privilege of visiting many parts of the world, and he could assure them that wherever the flag of Oddfellowahij was flying they would be received with that warmth, of fraternity which was embte-' matical of the Order. The chairman thanked Bro. Powley for his inspiring address and expressed the great pleasure the members had experienced at meeting such a, distinguished visitor. D.D.G M. Bro. Kirkham was called upon to make a presentation on behalf of District Lodge to P.D.D.G.M Bro. H. H. Johnson. In presenting a case of stainless cutlery, the speaker referred to the various branches of the Order in which Bro, Johnson had interested himself and expressed the gratitude of the district for the many services so willingly and ably rndered. As the editor, of the Official Hand-book since its inception, Bro. Johnson had been a conspicuous success. Kindly reference was also made to Mrs Johnson who, by her own self-sacrifice, allowed the Order the benefit of a large portion of her husband’s spare time. Several other brothers spoke in eulogistical terms of the recipient. Bro. Johnson thanked the Lodge and members for their handsome gift and kind remarks and particularly for the remarks in reference to his wife, who, although unable to attend meetings, was a true Oddfellow at heart.

A large number of members and visitors were present at the meeting of Leith Lodge No. 4. The visiting committee reported an unusually large amount of sickness amongst the members. Certified claims were passed for payment. One brother was admitted to the lodge as an honorary member. A vote of thanks to visitors was responded to by N.G Bro. Olsen (Pioneer), P.D.D.G.M. Bro. Bolton (Unity), N.G. Bro*. M'Hardy (Linden), and P.G. Bro. Carson (St. Kilda). /As the night was set aside for the “Old Firm taking charge, the N.G. invited Bro. Valentine to occupy the chair. Bro.' Valentine, on behalf of the “ Old Firm,” extended a hearty welcome to all present. Some excellent items were given by the following members;—Pianoforte solos, Bro. Tyne; recitation, P.G. Bro. Snelleksz; violin solo, Bro. Beath; “Some Dreams/' P,G. Bro. Caldwell: songs, Bro. J. Swan. Bro. A, E. Carroll also contributed a very interesting address on the progress of the new organ at the Town Hall. P.G. Bro. M'Einley, a veteran brother, on behalf of those present, thanked their host for the very entertaining evening. There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Maori Hill Lodge No 86 presided over by Bro. M. K. Glover. Various sick claims were passed for payment D.D.G.M. Bro. Kirkham attended officially and was _ received with full honours. An application for a transfer to Alfred Lodge. Oamaru, was granted to a member. The lodge then went into recess, when Bro. Glover entertained the members with special selections on the gramophone. Bro. Middleton related re miniscences of his travels round the goldfields of Australia in the early days. A resolution of thanks was conveyed to Secretary Bro Grigg for the keen interest he was maintaining in the affairs of the Order. Bro. Grigg suitably acknowledged the remarks and referred to the great assistance .given him by Bro. F. H M'Arthur. Bro. Kirkham, D.D.G.M., on behalf of the Grand Lodge, congratulated the lodge on the work it was doing, and stressed the need of hearty co-operation between subordinate and Grand Lodge. A vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by Bro. Harbornc (Linden) and Bro, Carroll (Leith), N.G. Bro. M'Hardy presided over a good meeting of Linden Lodge No. 19. Sick reports were received and claims passed for payment. The secretary reported on the recent visit to Clutha Lodge, and stressed the value of such visits. It was decided to arrange a de bate with Maori Hill Lodge, a subject to be selected by the D.D.G.M.. ‘P.G.M. Bro Valentine and _ P.D.D.G.M. Bro. Johnson kindly consenting to act as judges. As this was the night for the half-yearly installation of officers, the following Grand Lodge officers wore in attendance:—ln stalling Master. G.S. Bro. W. F. Crookc: D.D.G.W.. Bro. H. H. Johnson; D.D.G.M.. Bro. Kirkham; D.D.G. chaplain, Bro. C A. Bolton; D D.G. guardian, Bro. A, E. Carroll. A very dignified ceremony was performed by these officers. A lengthy toast list was then gone through, the first being that of “ The G.L. of Australasia,” which was responded to by P.G.M. Bro. Valentine, who referred to New Zealand's part in the counsels of

that body. P.D.M. Bro. Hendry proposed the toast' of “ The Grand Lodge of New Zealand,” this being responded to b G.S. Bro. Crooke and D.D.GAL Bro. Kirkhara. Bro. Crooke recalled some traditions of Linden Lodge, and referred to the standard set by veterans such as the late Bros. Wardrop, Kemnitz, and J. ratterson. He also spoke in high terras of present secretary Bro. Joseph. In a very appropriate speech Bro. Joseph extended a hearty welcome to P.G. Bro.
