TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —The following 1; ?. copy of a letter I sent to the chairman of the Clutha County Council, but, since it was not published, as I specially requested, I shall be obliged if you will find space for it:—

I sen by the Otago Daily Times that you have secured judgment against me for rates owing by me to your council. 1 beg to advise you that the Lands Department in Dunedin demanded our rates from ua when we dissolved partnership, and that we paid them a cheque of £2300 odd, being all moneys owing to them and including all rates and taxes owing by us even fo this year’s rates, so that I have actually no rates falling due till March, 1931._ This cheque was paid over a fortnight and four days previous to the aforesaid' judgment being obtained. I beg that in fairness to me you publish this letter in detail.”—l am, etc.,
