Dr George Fenwick left Dunedin yesterday morning on his return to Auckland. Mr William Heughan left Dunedin by yesterday’s express for the north. .Mr D. Rodie, commercial manager of the .■ Railways Department; left Dunedin yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr H. Welsh, of Auckland, arrived in Dunedin yesterday, and will, take up his residence in this city for six months. Mr P. Selig left Christchurch tor Wellington on Wednesday to join the, Makura. for Sydney, whence he goes to Queensland. C.M.G., D. 5.0.. chief of the general staff of the Defence Department, left- Dunedin yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr.R. G. Brickell, a member of the staff of Mr E, Fletcher Roberts, and Mr E. ,G. Finlayson, of Messrs N. and E. S.' Paterson’s,, have received word that they have been successful in passing the examination held recently in Wellington by the Survey Board of New Zealand. About 40 business men of the city attended the function' held to bid farewell to Mr J. B, Henry, manager of the Bank of. New. Zealand at Auckland, who is retiring after 49 years’ service, and who will leave shortly on a visit to England. Mr Henry was presented (reports out special correspondent) with a selection if travelling requisites, comprising four suitcases, two wardrobe trunks, and two rugs. Mr Robert A. Adams, who, for the last five years, has filled the positions of engineer, secretary, and chief executive officer of the Bluff Harbour Board, tendered hi;resignation at the monthly meeting, for health and private reasons, and. expressed’ his intention of entering business on his own account. The board accepted the resignation with regret (says our special correspondent), and decided ti relieve Mr Adams of his duites at the end of the present year, and granted him three months’ leave of absence.' ■ ' Mr G F. Booth, who is - retiring on superannuation and leaving the Port Chalmers School, of which he nas been rector for a lengthy term, has been the’recipient of numerous presents this week at Port Chalmers. Mrs Booth's services to the community have also' been recognised On Tuesday night Mr and Mrs Booth. were entertained by the congregation of the Presbyterian Church and presented with a wallet. The speakers were the Rev. J. R. M’Kenzie, Mr G. Edgar, Mr J. Watson, and Mr W. jJ. Wilson. Last night Mr and Mrs Booth were entertained by the members of the Bowling Club, and were again the recipients’ of a presentation, the good wishes of the donors. At the annual meeting of the Anderson’s Bay Presbyterian Church on Wednesday eevning, opportunity, was taken to say farewell to ’Mr and Mrs 'J. R, Fairbairn, who have removed to the north end of the _ city. Several members of the congregation spoke of the good work of the guests of the evening Mrs Fairbairn had been a painstaking secretary of the Women’s Missionary Union for over 10 years, and Mr Fairbairn treasurer of the congregation for 19 years. The ladies gave Mrs Fairbairn a toilet set and to Mr and Mrs Fairbairn jointly a canteen of cutlery, and tea service were given by the congregation.
