MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. ~ forty-eighth annual meeting of the Otago Anglers’ Association was held in Kroon s Social Hall,' Moray place, last evening. There waa a fair attendance. In the absence of the president (Mr W. v n } ayBon l» Mr S. C. Barnes was in the chair*

The annual report and balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £2l 15s 4d were adopted. Eleven new members were elected, the electron of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Prcsb dent, Mr I Gran p; vice-presidents— Messrs F. Haskall, W. Griffiths, M. iiarrat, D. M Lennan, and J. Winefield: secretary, Mr R. Wilson; treasurer, Mr W. T. Brailey; auditor, Mr C. A. Wilson;- committee—Messrs A. Spiers, A. Gillands. L. Perry. W. A. Raffils, R. Kay, A. Brown, A. H. At the conclusion of the business a smoke concert was held, and a toast list was honoured, to the accompaniment of a programme of items.

Some one the other day spoke of Napoleon lIJ as “ King of France.” In point of fact, Charles X was the last King of France,- Louis Phjlippe having been “ King of the French.” Napoleon I established the title of Emperor of the, French, and when Napoleon 111 appeared after the Second Republic, be was elected “ Emperor.” In the century from 1770 to 1870 France was in turn a kingdom, a republic, an •>mpire, a kingdom, a republic, an empire, and, finally, a republic, Humour has it that Signor Mussolini is considering raising the King of Italy to the- rank of Emperor of the Italians. Disraeli made Queen Victoria Empress of India, and Bismarck had King William of Prussia proclaimed German Emperor.
