CLYDE NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) CLYDE. September 23. THE WEATHER. Windy weather lias prevailed for some tinio, but seems to be over now \ fairly severe frost last Friday affected some of the apricot trees, residents on tire flat reporting damage, though not of an extensive character. GENERAL. The Bishop of Dunedin (Dr Richards) 1. arrive here next Wednesday, and during his stay will be the guest of the vicar and Mrs Pywell. On the following evening confirmation will bo administered to a large number of candidates from the various centres. After that service a social will be held in the Town Hall. Some weeks ago a committee was appointed to proceed with arrangements for a suitable building as a dental clinic to bo built in the school grounds. The committee met again last week and considered the result of communications with the Education Board on the subject. Negotiations are proving very satisfactory, and an appeal will soon be made to parents aud all others interested. A public lecture by Mr Goodwin on the marketing of fruit in South America was held under the auspices of tho local Fruitgrowers’ Association. Much information was given by the lecturer, and his lantern slides were very interesting. Tlie Vincent Ladies’ Hockey Sub-union held a six-a-side tournament'last Saturday in perfect weather. The attendance was large, and the .entries numerous. Teams from Milton and Kaitangata entered for the A Grade, which was very keenly contested throughout. In this section Wedderburn was runner-up. the Clyde team winning in great style. Alexandra High School won the B Grade, and Poolburn was the runner-up. This, too, was a very interesting group. Alexandra School won the C section, with Clyde as runner-up. A well attended dance was held in the Town Hall the same evening. A meeting to consider the formation of a body which would control and encourage golf in Central Otago had a good response from surrounding dubs. Some sent delegates, and others intimated their willingness to join such a body. It was decided to ask each club to bring up the matter at its next annual meeting, also that a further conference to discuss this matter be held at Cromwell. Messrs J. L. Davidson and W. A. Harlow were appointed officials to act and, if necessary, interview other clubs, explaining the suggestion wore fully.
