DIOCESAN SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The .annual meeting of the Diocesan Sunday School Teachers’ Association was held in the crypt of the Cathedral last evening, the Rev. Canon Button in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. After the customary opening exercises, the chairman moved the adoption of the annual report, which’read as follows: . Interest in the association has been well maintained. At the examination last year the passes wore 96, nine schools having entered. Thanks are due to the examiner, the Rev. H. S. Bishop. The prize-giving was held on April 30, in St. Matthews’s Schoolroom, and was well attended by scholars, teachers, and parents. His. Lordship the Bishop presented the prizes and certificates, and items were given by pupils from various schools. A teachers’ festival was held at IN- mid of the year, being much enjoyed by those present. Old Testament in tne Sunday School, church’s attitude towards evolution, youthful enthusiasm, and the relation of the Sunday School to the church. Alter tea addresses. were given on church history by the Rev. J. H. Rogers, and were greatly appreciated, tliose present gaining a clear understanding or the progress of the church from its beginning in Britain to the time of Edward the Confessor. Prom July 27 and for 10 days, Miss Park, Sunday School organiser from the Christchurch diocese, visited us and gave excellent addresses on the work of the different departments, showing many interesting diagrams and posters. Miss Park has the latest methods of teaching, arid her enthusiasm was infections, and many ■ teachers should benefit by her help. .The chairman, in moving the adoption of . the report, said that , the year had been 1 one of quiet progress. He referred to the manner in which teachers were \cnterlnß .into the activities of the association, "'Jr he said that there were still some schools in the diocese unconnected with the association. He hoped that these also would join up, and stressed the fact that both scholars and teachers would benefit by it.

The report was adopted. Some discussion took place upon the syllabus for the year’s work, and it was agreed that an endeavour should he made tq do away with the presentation of lessons m the same way year after year. A committee of four clergy «md four teachers was set up to arrange for/the now syllabus, which would cover a period of three years. It ,was_ decided to hold one combined picnic this year for all town schools in the diocese, and February 22 was fixed as a suitable date. The picnic will be held at Evansdale.

The-following office-bearers were elected tor the ensuing year:—President, the Rev. Canon Button (re-elected); vice-pre-sidents, the Revs W A. Hamblett and’A.
