SOUTH AMERICA BY MOTOR BOAT.

PARSON-SKIPPER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, August 15, Mr J. Woodcock, a veteran, of merely' 70, has decided to travel from England and. up the Amazon in a 70-foot motor boat. A chance friendship made on the voyage, from New' ; Zealand to Southampton by the Corinthic decided bin} to undertake this adventurous voyage. _ Mr Woodcock, an engineer by .profession, said to ,a Daily Chronicle correspondent: “ I formed the acquaintance,on the voyage of the Rev. A. W. Benton, who is a missionary. He told ine lie was going to the* upper reaches of the Amazon in a 70-fopt-motor launch, and'the upshot was that I took a post as his engineer. The parson will be the skipper; “We hope to strike a. patch of nice weather, and if we reach South America safely, we shall make the trip up ■ the Amazon to the remote part of the upper reaches, where Mr Benton is to carry on his missionary work.”

_Mr Woodcock said that he left England 45 years ago for Wellington, but did not reach'that place until immediately before joining the Cbrinthic.
