TRAGIC END TO FLIGHT
RECORD FOLLOWED BY DISASTER. i BODY TERRIBLY BATTERED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK,. August 31. 1 > (Received Sept. 1, at 5.5 p.m.) At Cleveland Thomas G. Reid, of Downey (California), won a new world’s solo endurance flight record last night, clipping'Lieutenant Fahy’s mark ,of 3(5 hours 25 minutes 34 seconds. Soon after he passed the mark the sound of his plane was not heard above the’ ,air port, and this morning searchers found his wrecked plane scattered widely and his terribly battered body, in the Lorain Woods west of the city. Apparently Mr 1 Reid fell asleep, and crashed into a tree. Mr Reid was married in California the day before ho loft for the races here, and he planned to break the record and use the prize money to take his bride on a .but extended, honeyrnoon .— Australian Press Association. !
