LONDON MONEY MARKET
TREASURY . BILL ISSUES. , HIGH RATE OF INTEREST. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, August 31. - (Received Sept. 1, at 5.5-p.m.), The result of r the tenders for the £5,000,000 Commonwealth 12 months’ hills certainly has not improved, Australia's financial standing in London. Although the high discount rate closely seconded to market anticipations the position apparently shows less confidencein the Commonwealth finances than is really indicated on . a closer study, since a combination of many circumstances, largely technical in nature, makes the present moment especially inopportune for any considerable borrowing irrespective oi the ‘borrower's identity.—United Service. Australia is not alone in having to pay a high price for Treasury bills, for yesterday’s issue of British three months’ Treasury bills was placed at a shade under 54 per cent., which, is the 'highest rate paid for British Treasury bonds" for a long time.—Australian Press Association.
