FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

' FORESTERS. The fortnightly meeting of Court Little John was largely attended. Official visits were received from Courts Pride-of-Green Island, Excelsior, anil' Queen of Green Island. I’.C.R.’s Bros. J. Benfell, T. Pitts, and P ; Holdaway, the judges of the general efficiency competition, .vers also present to judge the court on its work, C.R. Bvo. Davies occupied the chair and extended a hearty welcome to the judges and visitors. The toast of the visitors was responded to by P.C 11 Bro. Waluisley (Court Exclesior),. PC.It. Sister Orange (Court Queen of Green Island), and C.T. Bro. H. H. Richmond for Court Pride of Green Island. P.C R. Bro. Pil*s, in responding for the judges, complimented the officers on the efficient manner they had carried, out the. business of the court, and made special reference t«* the fine performance given by I.P.C.R. Hro, Thomson. After the completion of business, a social hour was spent at cards and dancing to music supplied by P.C.R. Sister Fraser. ' C.R. Bro. Walton presided over a good attendance of members at the last meet, ing of Court King Edward’s Pride, at the Kensington Hall. Official visits were received from Courts Robin Hood, Pride of the Leith, St. Andrew’s, Excelsior, and Court Enterprise was also represented. The toast of the visitors was responded to by Bros. Olsen, Brown, Jones, Mackay, and Bretell on behalf of their respective courts. A handsome cup has been presented to the court for competition, and to be held for one year by the member introducing the largest number of new members in a year. Two new members were admitted, and three nominations received. Harmony was rendered by Bro. R.A. Alexander, of Court Pride of the Leith, and P.C.R. Sister Fraser officiated at the piano for the dance which closed the meeting. Court Pride of Green Island held its usual fortnightly meeting on Wednesday last, when I.P.C.R. Bro. Freeman presided over a good attendance of members. An invitation from Court- Pride of the Leitb to its sixty-fifth anniversary, and from Court Queen of Green Island for an evening on September- 9, were accepted. One, new member was admitted, the ceremony being carried out by the C. ' assisted by P.O.R. Bro. W. A. Miller, and one nomination was received. The usual meeting of Court Molyneux was held in Clark’s Buildings, Balclutha, when the C.R.. Bro. L. Kirby, 'presided over a large gathering of members. Otago Lodge of the Druids wrote expressing its aprpeciation and thanks for kindness shown to one of thdir members by Bro. Bower, the court secretary. Several matters of_ vital interest to the cmirt were fully discussed, _in which several of the new members took an active part. An invitation to pay ah official visit to Court Queen of Molyneux was accepted 1 . Four nominations for membership were received and approved. ‘ . In the absence of the CJ!. of Court Pride of Molyneux (juveniles), the meeting was presided over by P.C.R. Bro. Wyndham, and there was a full meeting of members and the Committee of Management. The. district secretary (Bro. J. K. Macfie) wrote in reference to new regalia, and it was resolved to purchase a full set for the court. Seven youthful new members were admitted. It was decided to meet on the third Saturday of each month, and Bro. S. Porter was elected as minute secretary, and was presented with the badge of the Order. Following routine business,- members took part in games, and a profitable meeting closed with a bountiful supper supplied by the adult committee. . GOOD TEMPLARY. . The meeting of the Rescue Lodge No. 105, International Order of Good Templars, was held on Tuesday last in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, Bro. W. A. lies, chief templar, presiding. There was a good attendance of members, and visitors were present from Pride-of Waitati, Star oi Ffiedoffi, Had Hops Of Caversham Lodges. Bros. T. H. Dalton and J. Hilton made reference to the death of Sister Mrs M. A. Gunnell, -past grand superintendent of juvenile work. The members stood as a mark of respect, and the secretary was instructed to convey the sympathy of the lodge -to the_ Hope of Christchurch Lodge, of which. Sister Gunnell was a ■ member. The serious illness of Sister Mrs Kinch was reported, and the secretary was instructed to Convey, the sympathy and best wishes of the lodge to Bro. and Sister Kinch. Congratulations were extended to the members of the Endeavour Lodge, Auckland, on the splendid progress made since the institution of the lodge. Greetings were received from Bro. G. Price, grand .secretary, and Bro. W. - J. Trevithick, G.S.J.W. Reports from representatives! to District Lodge, Absent Members’ Committee, and visitors to juvenile temples, were received. A programme arranged by Sister C. Baird concluded the meeting. ' The Star of the South Juvenile Temple hold its weekly meeting oh Tuesday night last in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, Bro. James Hilton, superintendant, being in charge of a largo attendance of members. Two candidates were initiated._ The officers for. the ensuing term were installed by the assistant superintendent, Bro. E. J. lies, ably assisted, by Sister L. Baird and Bro. W. G. lies as installing marshals. Some helpful advice was given to the new officers by their superintendent, after which games were indulged in. The Hope of Caversham - Lodge, No. 128, held its weekly meeting in the Baxter Hall, Marion street, Caversham, on Thursday last. Sister Mrs Giles, C.T.,- presiding. Visitors from the Rescue and Hope of Dunedin Lodges were given a cordial welcome. Bro. E. lies (Rescue) and Sister Steadman (Hope of Dunedin) responded on behalf of their lodge. Bro. Dalton was received as an associate member, and spoke a few words about the late Sister, Gunnell, P.G.V.T. The programme for the night was sacred, and Temperance Night arranged by Sister Mrs Blythe. The following members contributed towards the programme:?—Sisters Thomas, SchUlty, Steadman, and B. • lies, Bros. Hilton, Dalton, and G. : lies. ;The meeting of the All Nations' Lodge, Mo. 13, 1.0.G.T., took the form of an open night on Thursday last. There was a good attendance of members, and a good number of friends were welcomed by the P.C.T., Bro. R. E. Cromarty, who opened the. lodge at 7.30 p.m. in the absence of the chief templar. One friend was initiated into the Order. G.C. Bro. W. A. lies (chief templar of the Rescue Lodge) conveyed greetings from the Grand Lodge officers, and spoke of . the death of Sister Gunnell. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to the Hope of Christchurch Lodge. The Secretary was also instructed to write to Sister Mrs Moody, who had been unable to attend owing to serious illness in her family, Bro. W, A. lies was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for obtaining a book of music and regalia for the lodge. A very enjoyable programme was then provided by members and friends. The following contributed items:— Dtoet by Bro, A. Campbell and Sister Mrs Smillie; songs by Sister K. Matheson, Sister I. Duggie, Sister Mrs Duggie, Mrs N. H. Campbell, Mr Nelson, and Miss Joyce Murray; recitations by Bro. Smillie, Bro. Cromarty, Bro. A. Wade, Sister Mrs Smillie, Sister Mrfl Pratley, Mrs Poison, and Miss Ruby Morran. Bro. Rev. Finch and Bro, Poison spoke on the work of the lodge, end a vote of thanks was accorded the visitors. A district degree meeting was held in the old Town Hall, Currie street, Port Chalmers, on Saturday evening, Bro. W. D. Campbell, district deputy, presiding, assisted by the following officers:—Bro.. W. A. lies, P.D.C.T.; Sister Miss Campbell, district treasurer; Bro. R. Cromarty, district secretary; Sister Mrs W. M'Cormack, district chaplain; Bro. P. Smith, district guard; Sister Mrs lies, district vice-templar; Bro. W. M'Cormach, district marshil; Bro. G. Smillie, district deputy marshal. There was a good attendance, and a very interesting evening was spent in discussing methods of conducting lodge work. Ceremonial and other work was conducted by various members.
