HARMSWORTH CUP CONTEST. NEW WORLD’S RECORD. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright,) NEW 1 YORK, August 31. (Ropoived Sept. 1, at II p.m.) At Detroit, Gar Wood, in an American eight, won the first heat of the Harmsworth Cup motor boat races, establishing a new world's record of 07.932 miles per hour for six laps of a 30-tnilc course. The Estelle was fourth. A British entrv, driven by an Englishman named Marion Carstaivs, developed ignition trouble in the third lap, and did not complete the course. Although she may race in the second heat on Monday her performance cannot count for the cup; which will remain in America, because all the other entries are American.—Australian Press Association.
