The building was a single storey one of wood, and was situated close to the railway station. No damage was done to the latter. OUTBREAK IN COUNT? OFFICE. (Pen United Press Association.) REEFTON, August 19. A fire early this morning gutted the Inangahua County Council Chambers. It had a good hold when discovered. All the books were saved, only old records being destroyed. The insurances were 12500 each in the Phoenix. Standard, and Alliance offices, and £l5O on the furniture and safe. The loss is much greater. OUTBREAKS IN CHRISTCHURCH. INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. (Pee United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 10. Two suspicious fires occurred in the city on Saturday night. In one case the outbreak began, in a washhouse which had not been used during the day, and spread to the kitchen, where the brigade checked In the other caee a small office attached' to J. E. Cooper’s coal yard in Montreal street, was destroyed. An employee, living nearby, was awakened by the sound of a muffled explosion, and ran out to see the front wall of the structure ablase, LOCAL CALLS. Two justifiable false alarms, one at 11.15 a.m. to Maeandrew road, and the other at 6 p.m. to an office situated above the premises of the Jubilee Cosl Company in Vogel street, were responsible for the City Fire Brigade being summoned yesterday. A third call, to a chimney fire in High street, was also responded to by the brigade at 5.50 p.m., no damage re* suiting.
