AUSTRIAN FASCISTS
CLASH WITH SOCIALISTS. SEVERAL PEOPLE KILLED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) VIENNA, August 19. (Received August 19, at 10 p.m.) Several were killed and 30 to 40 wounded in a fierce clash between Fascists and Socialists at Marein. The Socialists obtained a permit to make a demonstration, and the Fascists, known as the “ Helmwehr,” broke their own promise to confine their counter-demon-stration to a neighbouring village and poured into Marein in order to break up a Socialist meeting. They 'were stoned by the Socialists, and retailiated by the use of rifles and machine guns.—Australian Press Association.
