Home Made, who has been BQjd to an Australian owner, is bred on attractive lines. He was got by Thurnbara from Housewife, by KenilworthBusy Bee, by Gozo—lndustry, by Musket —Peai'l Ash. Bred on those lines, Home Made should stay well. He belongs to the same family as Gaulus, The Grafter, and Comic Song. The unregistered racing dispute in Queensland has been settled. The Kedrou Park Club, which was boycotted by owners, trainers, and jockeys, has agreed to restore the prize money to its original arnount, £405, each Monday. As a result, racing will proceed as usual. The club had given notice to all its employees, including the stewards, and had decided to cancel the £IOOO trot during exhibition week. These decisions were rescinded. Affirm, brother to Historic, who first saw the light in this Dominion in 1921, continues to play his part attractively, even- though he has entered on his ninth years (says the Press). At Caulfield on the 3rd inst, he was set to contest the Malakoff Stakes, nine furlongs, in which he carried lOst, and in a hot finish he beat the well-performed Highfield (9.4) by -a head in Imin 53isec. Affirm formed one of. the lots in the catalogue at the dispersal sale of the Corteen-Tye horses in 1925, when he fell to the bid of Mr G. Harris at 900gns. The three-year-old Leader gave further evidence of his brilliancy by winning the •Longbeach Handicap, the opening event at Riccarton on Saturday { disposing of the opposition just as_ easily as he had done in his two. previous successes this month (says the Christclvvch Times). He was giving away weight to eight of his own age, as well to a number of useful older hacks. _ Starting from wide out at the barrier, his great pace enabled him to cross over close to the rails soon after the start, and at no stage did he look in serious danger of defeat. Leader may never be a stayer, but there is at least a reasonable prospect that he will run out a good mile, so that he will have to be reckoned with in any of the Guineas contests that he is started in, while his prospects in open sprint handicaps look exceptionally bright. Black Duke reeistered another brilliant performance when he won the Heathcote Handicap. He was prominent from the rise of the barrier, and he stayed out the mile very solidly. He is one of tlaose good horses to whom wet or dry tracks seem to be alike acceptable, and, as he is in great form at present, he may get some more money during the spring meetings. Taboo has been regarded for a long time as a horse who requires a heavy track to show him at his best. In his races last week, however, he demonstrated tliat he is equally good on firmer ground He put up a good performance to finish third m the Winter Cup, while he ran well again for a mile in the Islington Handicap on Thursday. He finished up tiie week with another good performance m , Handicap, m which he had Black Duke doing his best to stall him oft in the straight. The three-year-old Blue Metal, a stable companion p.f Royal Saxon, ran a sound race when he finished third in the Longbeach Handicap. He was prominent trom the rise of the harrier, and he finished on in attractive style. It was his first race since Easter, and rapid improvement may be expected from him “firing the next month or two. ~ A filly with an unbeaten record graces mi?, turf m England at the presentee daughter of Tetrgtema and Dawn-wind, who is owned by Lord Ellesmere, At two years old last year Xiffin won the whole of her engagements ~, ve number, and when the last mail 7“™ left London she was still unbeaten. At Newmarket on July 4, Tiffin was produced to contest the July Cup (six furlongs) in which she was weighted at 9.2, and had to measure strides against a firstclass fpur-year-pld in Royal Minstrel, who earned 10.3. In an account of the race it is related that 100 yards from the post Royal Minstrel had a neck advantage and it seemed as though the filly was to' lose her unbeaten certificate, but an unexpected incident occurred then which gave her her last chance, and with "great courage she made the most of this dramatic opportunity. Royal Minstrel changed his legs, as a tiring horse will do, and the momentary and almost imperceptible check winch this involved cost him the race. Tiffin won by a short head amidst great excitement, and there was a marked display of enthusiasm when the filly came back to the enclosure. TROTTING. FIXTURES. August 31.—Auckland Trotting Club. Nominations for the trotting events on the Otago Hunt Chib’s card arc duo today. The stallion Dalnahine, who is eligible for the New Zealand Cup, is not likely tn be nominated, as it is intended to retire him to the stud in the Oatnaru district. The progeny of 34 sires earned money at Addington. Hal Zolock headed the list with £1450, followed by Brent Locanda £B6O. Logan Pointer £BSO, Rev do Oro £785, Matchlight £750, Peter Moko £676, hirst Voyage £SOO, and Harold Dillon £SOO. The sire honours at Addington were shared by Peter Moko, Matchlight, and Hal Zolock, each of whom had three winners. i Logan Pointer, Rey de Oro and Harold Dillon bad Wo, while sires with one winner were Brent Locanda, Belmont Chimes, Denver Huo'n, Our Thorpe First Voyage, Native King, John Dillon! Sonoma Harvester, and Lorene Todd. Harvest Child, in winning the Heathcote Handicap, scored an overdue win The five-year-old son of Sonoma Harvester and Gwenehild raced consistently last season without much success. TTw |g gome*

what OH the small side, and does not give tile appearance of being a good stayer, out he possesses wonderful stamina, and in all his races is usually found doing his best m the concluding stages. He was driven by C. E. Lindsay, who owns his sire. Quality did not make a good start in the National Cup, but she gradually made up her ground. In the last quarter of a mile she came on very fast, and just headed off King Pointer for second money. It was easily her best performance at the meeting, and had she gone away faet at the start she might have finished closer to Padlock. Bonny Logan, who has dono a lot of racing, is still a force to be reckoned with in sprint events. In tbe Farewell Handicap she had to be hard driven to get second money, but tile consistent marc was equal to the occasion. She retains her form in a wonderful manner, and although Dot improving, she races most consistently over sprint courses. Chef’s time in the Lightning Handicap, the mile saddle event, easily accounted for some of tbe others being hopelessly out of the contest. Handicapped at 2min 12bCc, Chef went 2min 9 l-ssec, and won easily. He is trained by Nelson Priceand lie showed a lot of speed when first put into work. Chef is by Rey de Oro from a Logan Pointer mare, whose dam was Innisfail, a good performer in her day. So far Chef has been seen to advantage only over sprint courses, but he may stay better with age, as he is only a four-year-old. W. J. Tomfcinson was the most successful reineman at the Addington meeting, as he drove four winners. K. B. Berry, and W. Hughes' each won three races, F. Price, V. Alborn, J. S. Shaw, and J. Bryce two, while those with one winning mount were A. Smith, D. Bennett, C. S. Donald, W. J. Gudsell, P. Gallagher, and C. E. Lindsay. Bessie Logan is coming back to form and this fine pacer should soon be found racing ever two miles in good company. She has made a lot of improvement since she went into C. 8. Donald’s stable, although she has so far been raced only over short courses: The success of Maiwhariti in the Farewell Handicap was 'a triumph for Torakinson’a judgment says the Christchurch Times). The Harold Dillon pacer, when first he joined the Addington trainer’s stable, bad an abundance of speed, but he mixed his gait badly tn\ bis races, and could not stay. Tomkinson set to work to remedy these defects, and got Maiwhariti going steadily. Then it was found there was a likelihood of him staying oyer a journey, and he was raced in two-mile events. Maiwhariti won the Canterbury Handicap on tbe second day of the meeting, beating a good field over two miles. Set to his favourite distance, ho made short work of the opposition in the final event of the meeting. GORE TROTTING CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. (From Ode Own Correspondent.) GORE, August 19. The annual report of the Gore Trotting Club states:—lt is your committee’s pleasant duty to report that another suecessful year has been experienced by the club. The programme for the annual meeting again met with the approval of owners and trainers, as was proved by the increase in nominations and acceptances. Gate takings were slightly lower than previously, but this was largely due to the removal of the cha r <e on motor cars. Speculation bn the totalisator also showed a slight decrease, but in this connection it must be mentioned that we received a setback early in the day owing to the breakdpwn of the special train from Invercargill. This made it necessary to run a little behind schedule time for the day, and possibly this was a factor in making the public slow to speculate. The Gore Racing Club’s property was in excellent order, and a feature of tbe good racing witnessed was the fast times put up by some of the‘horses. In particular Mr C. Burnby’s Desert Star, in finishing second in the principal race, registered 4.33 for the two miles, which is probably a Southland record, while in the Telegraph Handicap Mr A. M'Lellan’s Wilma Dillon won in 2.13 3-5. Taxation paid by the club for the day’s racing was as follows:—Totalisator tax, £460 7s 3d; dividend tax, £B2B 17s; tax on stakes, £9O; amusement tax, £B2 6s Id; income tax, £3 15s; total, £1465 6g 2d. The following shows the position of the club’s membership roll:—On roll on August 1, 1928, 234; new members, 9; reinstated, 1; resigned, 5; deceased, 1; struck off, 2; on roll July 31. 1929, 236; total, 244. We regret to have to report the death of a well-known trotting enthusiast, Mr J. M'AHister, of Mataura, who was a member of the club for many years. For the vacancies in the various offices to be filled at the annual meeting tbe following candidates have been nominated:—President, Mr J, F. Grant; vicepresidents, Messrs E. A. Pigeon and W. H. Adamson; committee —Messrs J. Reid, T. A, Fleming, H. M'lntyre, J. J. Reynolds, and D. Windle, As only the required number have been nominated, all will be declared duly elected. The profit and loss account shows a profit for the year of £443 9s 3d. AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB’S HANDICAPS. (Pee United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August i 9.
