LATE ARCHBISHOP LEES.

— ~ • INTERMENT OF ASHES. IN ROCHESTER CATHEDRAL. n i a prlvate serv ice in Rochester Cathedral recently the casket containing the ashes of Dr Harrington Lees, formerly Archbishop pf Melbourne, was d°posited in the Lady Chapel. Later a slab of Buchan marble will be affixed, and it will be inscribed as follow's:—" Harrington Clare Lees. Born March 17, 1870, and entered into the fuller life January 10, 1029. At one time incumbent ip this diocese. Archbishop of Melbourne 19210. He fed them with a faithful true heart and ruled them prudently with all his pow r ev.'' The ashes had been brought from Australia ]})’Mrs Lees. Those present at the service included the w’idow and her parents. Miss Joan MacLennan, the former archbishop’s secretary, and the Agent-general for Victoria (Mr ). The casket rested in front of the altar, surmounted by a mitre and flanked by six candles. The Bishop of Rochester, Dr Harmor, paid a moving tribute to Dr Lees, whose predominate gift was love. Ho was joyous in bis privileges of sympathy and helpfulness, attracting others to him inseparably through his wise counsel, his geniality and love reflecting the sunlight of God s presence. He was also charming as a preacher. Bishop Harmer knew of none so fertile in investing his texts with a new significance through the 'latest revelations of archaeologists and scholars. His simpleminded sincerity drew men to him and kept them there. Australian pilgrims would kneel in the cathedral and thank God for this golden link in the chain of Australia’s spiritual succession. The casket was carried in a procession to the quiet Lady Chapel and deposited in a cavity beneath the altar rail. Dr Lees’s widow’ lijid a cross of scarlet geraniums upon the resting place of the casket.
