The Hibernian Society and Debating Club rooms were well filled on the occasion of a Shakesperian reading under the direction of Mr J. B, Flynn. The plav seJected was “Othello.” In the absence of the club president (Mr A, Gillick). the vice-president (Mr J, E. Ryan) occupied the chair. The following was the cast:— Othello, J. B. On Monday, August 5. there was again a large attendance of members, when an interesting debate was held. The club president (Mr A. The debate was very keenly argued by the speakers in a'most capable mailner. On the vote of the audience the negative side was successful. This was also the decision of the judge, who' awarded the negative 270 points and the affirmative 2CO points., On Wednesday, August 7, the club held an iuterclub bfU hard in a ten with the Nortli-B'.st Valiev Cathohc Men s Club. The vice-president of the club (Mr J. L. Ryan) welcomed the guests of the evening. Mr J W Mnssou spoke on behalf of the Valiev’Club and thanked Mr Ryan for the welcome. August 12, and instnictiye lecture on “Evolution and Cathohcism" was given by the Rev. lather Tylee (Adm.), who supplied much valuable information. The lecturer at the conclusion of his address, was’ accorded a vote of thanks. The monthly meeting of the Anderson's Bay ocliool Committee was held on Wednesday evening, the chairman (Mr J. C. H. Somerville) presiding. The headmaster reported on the work of the school for the last month,' and stated that the health of the pupils was excellent. The concert by the pupils last mouth was very su~cessfnl, and notwithstanding the inclement weather, the hall was filled. A vote of thanks to the headmaster and staff for their untiring efforts in this connection was earned unanimously. The A Grade basket ball team had played seven games, winning four, losing two, and drawing one. Ihe 13 team had won all itg games.* The football team was unfortunately handicapped through several of the best players belonging to the Anglican and Glendining Homes, not being permitted to play' oh Saturdays._ It was decided to try to remedy this by interviewing the respective managers of the homes.
