BULLION FOR FRANCE

AIR TRANSPORT FROM LONDON. LONDON, July 30. Many a traveller, not knowing the fact, has sat with his feet upon thousands of pounds’ worth of gold bullion while being taken from London to Paris on the Imperial Airways passenger liners. The total value of the bullion carried in the past nine days was £3,000,000. The Financial News says the City is becoming alarmed and resentful at the obviously unnatural movement. It is suggested that the object is to bring political pressure to bear on the British Government on account of the anti-French attitude of the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Philip Snowden). The Paris correspondent of the Daily News says it is admitted that the purchases constitute a financial manoeuvre to strengthen the hands of the French Government at the Reparation Conference.
