MOTOR CAR PROBLEM

ELIMINATION OF NOISE. MR FORD ON DISADVANTAGES. DETROIT, July 31. Mr Henry Ford, who to-day celebrated liis sixty-sixth birthday, says he believes that, from the engineering stand point, the outstanding problem in the manufacture of motor cars is the elimination of noise. “Noise mean bad design,” Mr Ford explained. “ When the various measurements are held closer to those specified by the engineers, wo shall have more silent and altogether better cars. “Let us extend our reform to noisy streets and workshops,” he went on. “Noise means friction, and that means wear, and wear is costly. Wear, that comes through friction is the moat costly waste in industry.”
