POWDERED FUEL
USE ON NEW STEAMER
THE SWIFTPOOL INSPECTED. (United Press Association.)' (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, August 1. The Swiftpool is the first new steamship on Lloyds British Register designed for world trading which is completely dependent on powdered fuel for firing. She is being inspected by experts at West Hartlepool. She is of 9000 tons, and is 421 feet in leugth.' She is unique in so far as she has no alternative for hand-firing the boilers, being designed solely to operate on the Brand system of powdered fuel. The main bunker's capacity is 2000 tons. An arrangement with the upper deck hatch lias been provided for trimming the coal into the daily service bunker. There are two pulverisers on the stokehold floor convenient to the bunkers for breaking down the slack coal. There is a reserve fuel supply overhead in the stokehold sufficient for several hours* steaming with the pulverisers out of action.—Australian Press Association.
