CHRISTCHURCH FIRE FIEND.
EIGHT INCENDIARY OUTBREAKS. MR ARCHER’S -LOSS ESTIMATED AT £3OO. ■ K (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 27. Last night’s lire at the house of the Mayor. (Mr J. K. Archer) was the eighth of a similar nature in the city in the past ■three weeks, the total damage being estimated at: £16,000. The police are investigating the matter,'but no trace has yet been discovered of the criminals.
Mr Archer’s loss by 'fire is £3OO. He believes that nothing was stolen. The thieves’ first attempt to get into the house was through the breakfast room. There are Wo sets of footprints, one large and the other much smaller, leading from.the back of the washhouse across the garden to the breakfast room window. Marks on the catch of ther window indicate that an attempt .was made, to force it. After being foiled in the attempt, it is believed that the thieves gained, entrance through one of the dining room windows.
