Sir Hubert Wilkins, the Arctic and Antarctic explorer, landed at Plymouth to-day. On his last Antarctic trip Sir Hubert Wilkins explored 1200 miles of coast line, discovering 20 islands, two channels, and one strait. He will return to the Antarctic next September, when he hopes, with the help of an aeroplane, to explore 2500 miles of coast line between Graham Land and Ross Sea. • LURE OF THE ANTARCTIC. SIR HUBERT INTERVIEWED. LONDON, May 5. Sir Hubert Wilkins, interviewed on his arrival from New York, said that at present he was marking time until September, when he will return to the Antarctic to pick up the equipment stored on Deception Island. “It must be recognised that the present work is of a preliminary character,” c said. “ The task that I set myself involves from 10 to 15 years’ labour. After the completion of the geographical work this, year and the making of one more trip to the Arctic I will be able to proceed with my real plans. • My ambition is to establish 12 observation stations.” SJr Hubert Wilkins will leave New York in September to join . the Norwegian whalers at Montevideo, on the trip southward. He will reach his headquarters in November. It is proposed to explore 2500 miles of coast between Graham Land and Ross Sea. The next flight will bring Sir Wilkins to Commander Byrd’s headquaraers, thus joining up the work.—Australian Press Association.
