Woodcock’s farm at Maungakaramea on Saturday, Victor Clarke was bitten by a horse, portion of his left eyebrow and cheek being torn away. Symes, who received full charge in his right arm and wrist, was conveyed, to the Waipukurau Hospital, where -it wm found necessary to amputate the arm below the-elbow. . (Peb United Press Association’) INVERCARGILL, May 6., The inquest touching the death of Margaret Smith, whose body was found'hanging in her home on Saturday, was held to-day. ; A.son of the-deoeased stated that, his mother had not been in good health during the . past eight or nine months, - a \ bad fall having affected hey nerves. She i had complained to witness of insomnia.' The. coroner returned a verdict that the deceased took her life while her mind was temporarily unbalanced. BOY’S FATAL FALL. INQUEST OPENED AND ADJOURNED. Sitting as .coroner, Mr J. R. Bartholo. mew, S.M., held an inquiry, at the Dun-* edin Hospital yesterday morning concerning the death of ■ Alfred James Thomson, ■aged ,12 years: Sergeant "Wade represented the police. ' Andrew Morrison Thomson, father of the boy, said he was a farmer at. Owaka Valley. His son had been in ill-health since birth, and had been subject to fits. The boy had been frequently attended by -Dr. Stenhouse, of Owaka, Oh the morning of April 18 witness visited the Owaka township. The boy was in his usual state of health before witness left home. At that time alterations were being made to his house,, the flooring joists being in position on the day he visited Owaka. While at Owaka he received a telephone message from his wife to the effect that he would have to return home at lunch time. He arrived home about 1 p.m., and found Dr Stenhouse treating the deceased. He was informed by his wife that the boy had fallen on the. flooring joists, arid broken his jaw. Dr Stenhouse ordered, the boy’s removal to the Balclutha Hospital, where he was admitted on the afternoon of April 18. On April 19 . his son was removed to the Dunedin Hospital. Dr W, N. Searle, house surgeon at thie Dunedin Hospital, said the deceased was admitted to the institution late on the , afternoon .of April 19. . He examined the boy immediately after admission, and found that he was suffering from a bad fracture of the jaw and bronchitis. The jaw. was splintered, and deceased’s chest condition did not improve. -He died at 10135 on Friday night. In hip opinion the cause of death' was partly due to broncho-pneumonia and cardiac failure, following upon' a , fracture of the jaw, which could Have been caused by a fall/, from an erect position. There were no' other marks of injury on the body of deceased. The coroner said that was all the evidence to be tendered at that stage, and adjourned the inquest sine die.
