RUGBY FOOTBALL.

MEETING OF OTAGO UNION. The weekly meeting of the Committee of Management of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night.: The president (Mr W. Brown) occupied the chair. Mr H. 8, Leith wrote expressing his willingness to act as an Otago delegate at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. A letter was received from the Kaikorai Club withdrawing its Fifth Grade team ‘from the competition.—Referred to the Flag Committee. ■ A request from the Zingari-Richmond Club for permission to enter another team in the Fourth Grade competition was referred to the Flag Committee. . The Southern-Club wrote notifying that it was withdrawing its Fifth Grade team from the competition.—The secretary reported that the match to have been played against Green Island had been awarded to the latter team. The secretary reported that Training College had defaulted in its match against Kaikorai third, and that the match had been awarded to Kaikorai, ( The Pirates’ Club wrote asking permission to withdraw its- Fifth Grade team from the competition and to enter this team in the Fourth Grade competition.— The secretary said the Flag Committee had been requested to make the alteration. , n Mr P. Vallis, secretary of the Union Clubj wrote stating that the reason why his club had played Johnson before his transfer from Kaikorai had been .approved by the committee, and in face of the instruction of the secretary of the union that he could not be played, that he had been unable to get in touch with the coach or captain of the team before the game was played.—The explanation was accepted.—The secretary stated that no explanation had been received from Johnson regarding why he had played in the face of his instruction that he could not take the, field for Union until his transfer had been approved.—A motion that the player-be suspended until he replied and appeared before the union was defeated, arid an amendment that the matter he held over for a week, pending a reply from Johnson carried. -A letter was received from the New Zealand University Council asking for the names of three. referees eligible to act in the match in Dunedin between the Otago University and the Australian University teams. —The secretary reported that _the Appointment Board had selected the following referees:—G. MKenzie, A. Eckhold, and R. Herd.—Names to be forwarded to the University Council. GOVERNING BODY CRITICISED.’ Mr H. Harris asked if the annual report and balance sheet of the New Zealand Rugby Union had ’ come to hand. According to the New Zealand Rugby Union rules, the report and balance'sheet should be before them at least, a fortnight before the annual meeting, which was to be held oh May 'l6. Delegates to the meeting would not have an opportunity of discussing the report it they did not receive a copy. Mr D. M. Stuart said'he thought they should have received the report and balance sheet, so that they could discuss them, and give their delegates any instructions they might see fit. He would move that their secretary' write to the New Zealand Union asking it to forward the report and balance sheet. - Mr W. Allan seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. A member: I suppose they will come along in due course. GATE TAKINGS, The secretary (Mr E.‘S. Wilson) reported that the gate receipts at Carisbrook bn Saturday came to £274 7s.
