If there are 20,000 golfers in New South' Wales a special levy of 2s a head would create a fund of '£2ooo. It is possible (says- the Sydney correspondent of the Argus) that this amount would be sufficient for the purpose of the originator of the proposal to place the game on a better footing. He is Mr W. A. Windeyer, K.C., who has been conspicuous in politics* not as a member of Parliament or a seeker of - such' honour, but rather in the role of Warwick. Mr Windeyer, is a man who, when he taket up a certain policy, adheres to it until victory crowns his banner. During the war he announced that he would not wear any other trousers than the pair he had on until hostilities ceased. The much-patched trousers were run up on a flagstaff, in the city during the Armistice ■ celebrations. His plan is to have a fund that will permit golfers who are not rich to .become members of teams visiting other States, and will provide for the despatch of professionals to the country to show golf student there the correct stance , and so forth. Some golf clubs, opposed this levy, but after hearing Mr Windeyer their delegates to the conference called to consider it intimated their conversion.
