The opening meeting of the St. Andrew's Literary and Debating Club vas held in the Bible School, Carroll street. o n Friday evening. The programme consisted of a play-reading “The Boy Comes Home, organised by Miss E. Ewing, and an impromptu debate—“ That modern dress needs reform.” by past and present members of St. Andrew’s. The Rev. H. y. Ryburn and Mr R. H. Simpson spoke tor the affirmative, and Mr J. G. Patterson and Mr J. Parquhason took the negative. After an enjoyable string trio by the Misses and Mr Hayward, supper was served by the ladies.
