SOCIAL AT OUTRAM.

Mr and ill's Ward were tendered a farewell at Outran! on Friday night in the Oddfellows’ Hall in the presence of a large gathering of friends. Mr Ward has filled the position of postmaster for the last two years. In view of Mr Ward’s services to the community, representatives of the surrounding districts felt it their duty to visit Outram that night and publicly testify to the worth of the departing officer, and to express their regret at his departure. Speeches in this vein were made by Mr J. W. Blair (chairman of the Taieri County Council), Messrs A. Walker, F. Doherty, son., and D. M’Lean (Outram), Mr W. J. Reid (Harvey’s Flat), Mr W. J. Roberts (Clark's Junction), and Mr R. M. Fleming (station master). A presentation was made''to Mr Ward of a smoker’s companion, and to Mrs Ward of a tea trolley. The speeches and gifts were suitably acknowledged by Mr Ward. An excellent concert programme was rendered as follows:—Songs, Misses Trcacy, Southgate, and M'Donald, Messrs J. A. and W. Bathgate and A. F. Walker; cornet solo, Mr Fleming; recitations, Mr Petrie; fancy dancing, Mrs Anderson; duct (piano and violin). Misses Walker. Mips Treacy and Mr Fleming played the accompaniments. Mr and Mrs Ward left this morning for their new home at Kaiapoi, to which place Mr Ward has been promoted. His successor 'is Mr Caterer, from Clyde, who was welcomed to Outram at the social.
