THIS YEAR'S CONFERENCES. (From Ot)r Own Correspondent.) v r, , LONDON, March 27. The New Zealand National Council of Women has asked Lady Gunson to represent the Dominion at the coming conferences and public meetings of the International Council of Women, to, be held in London from April 26 to May 9. Delegates will attend from 40 countries. Never before, it is stated, has such a. band of _ distinguished women gathered together in London from so many .parts ot the world. Exactly 3'y years nave gone by. since the International Council of Women first met in London, and then there were only 10 affiliated national councils. . The visitors should have a wonderful time, as many functions have been arranged. The Prime Minister, will be among those to accord them a welcome. Ihree women M.P.’s—Lady Astor, Mrs Walter Runciman, and Miss Margaret Bondfield—will speak at a dinner to the delegates on May 8, at which the president will be Lady Emmott, president of the National Council of Women of Great Britain. An Arts and Crafts Exhibition is being arranged as part of an international women's festival. There will also .be a pageant, which is being produced with the assistance of the embassies and legations in London, symbolising the growth of the International Council. , The rate pf increase in membership since 1899 has been one new national council a j'ear. How women have helped in rebuilding the world of to-day from the point of view of industry and social and legislative reforms, will fdhn the theme at a public meeting on May 2. Lady Astor has arranged a reception and Lady Aberdeen will give a tea party.
