GAELIC SOCIETY.
Tire monthly meeting of the Gaelic Sqciety was held last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street. In the unavoidable absence of the chief, Chieftain T. Ritchie took the chair and supporting him were the newly elected chieftains J. S. M'Peak, R. M'Lean and H. MTvinnon. Chieftain T. Ritchie in a few words apologised for the absence of the chief and informed the meeting that he (the chief) would be with them at the next meeting. He also introduced the newly elected chieftains for the year and bespoke for them a happy term of office. Chieftain Thomas Ritchie welcomed to the meeting Mr M'Rae, a Highlander from Southland, An excellent programme of Gaelic songs and national dancing was submitted and received the hearty applause of the audience. The following contributed:—Mrs J. W. Mackay, Gaelic song, “ Anns’ a gleann s’robh mi og” and “Wi’ a Hundred Pipers;” Mrs A. J. Matthewson, “ Roth say Bay” and “Loch Lomond;” Mr Arthur Lungley, “Border Ballad” and “ The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond;” Mr A. M'Lennan, Gaelic song, “ M’hori slan I’Fiuuary;” Miss Eva Judd, violin (with piano accompaniment), “The Auld Scotch Sangs ” and “The Auld Hoose;” Piper J. Yardley gave a stirring selection on the “ Phiob More;” Misses Daphne Allen, Patsy Atkinson, May Wilson, Rena Harris and Nancy Crichton danced the fling; Misses P gy Black and Evaline Williams danced the scan truibhaia; and Misses Daphne Allen and Patsy Atkinson the Irish jig. Dancing was kept up for an hour, Mr A. M’Kenzie being M.C.
