RACING NEWS. FIXTURES. May 4.—Marlborough R.C. May 4. —Oamaru J.C. May 4.—Marton J.C. May 4.-—Oamaru J.C. May 9, 11.—Egmont R.C. May 16, 18.—Wanganui J.C. May 25.—Ashburton R.C. June 1, 3,—Otaki Maori R.C. June 1,3, s,—Dunedin J.C. . Juno 1,3, 5. —Auckland R.C. June 20, 22. —South Canterbury J.C. By Sewtinbl. Kate Kelly, Valuator, and Malmsey will not fulfil engagements-at Oamaru, Rabbi, the winner of the Nelson Cup, was got by the locally-owned stallion Paladin from. Rachel, by Kilbfoney—- . Rebekah, by Bezonian. The Psychology—Orofino filly Flare is in work under F. Christmas’s charge. Orofino was got by Finland from d’Oro. a sister to Desert Gold. There should be some interesting racing at Oamaru to-day, where the fields are of good numerical strength, and the even quality which makes for good sport. The Winter Cup will probably find backers going on Royal Saxon, Wingntui, and Evening, with a preference for the firstnamed. Meadow Lark will probably start first choice in the Flying Handicap, with Waving Corn and Arrowmir selected as the strongest of the opposition. Troilns and Antrim Boy will find support in the Pacific Hurdles. Meitui, who shaped very promisingly at the Oamaru autumn meeting, will no doubt be in demand for the Trial Stakes, and the best of the others may be considered to be Best Policy and ■ Glenrowan. A quick beginner has an advantage at , Oamaru, and Sea Raid, Noteworthy. Solgele, and Killorna will be fancied on that account for the Hack Handicap. The improving Broadfield is also fairly smart. The order of favouritism may be Sea Raid and Killorna, with Solgele next in demand. Some of those engaged in the Farewell Handicap also have engagements earlier in the day, but if reserved Arrowmir, Money Mine, Tripaway, and Paper Boy would be fancied. Royal Saxon is not likely to start if he runs in the Winter Cup, and backers may be found paying most attention to Tripaway, Money. Mine, and Arrowmir. According to reports from Christchurch, Evening is expected to make a- better show in the Winter Cup than she did at Amberley, where she was not quite right owing to being slightly off colour. The Ashburton County Racing Club’s programme for its meeting this month will probably include a hurdle race in place of the usual High-Weight Handicap. Several of the Riccarton trainers were approached on the subject and with the promise -of some of the older brigade of jumpers and a number of newcomers to the game being nominated, the club would be justified in making the change. Mrs M. A. Perry and Mr Gaine Carrington have amalgamated forces and will jointly own the Otatara stud at Hawke’s Bay.- Hunting Song and Colossus will join Cockpit at the stud, and the brood mares will total about 40. <■' The Kilbroney gelding Kiriana created a very favourable impression when racing at the Nelson meeting, and is regarded ) as a possibility for a good distance handicap next season. His dam Bayana was *ot by Birkenhead—Matiri, by Torpedo —Whaitiri, by Musket. A week ago Alan M'Donald (says “Vedette”), the hurdle horseman, while engaged in exercising a horse, lost, a wristlet watch. A search failed to find it, and it was not till following the advent of rain that the timekeeper exposed itself on the plough. Despite the fact that the hoofs of hundreds of horses had gone by, the watch was little worse for its experience, the glass and one of the hands being alone missing when it was picked up. Fiuthair has rejoined R. Hatch’s stable: She won the Great Autumn of 1926 as a four-year-old, TJe Martian gelding Grand National is back in work after a spell. Mr C. T. Xeeble has purchased a colt by Hunting Song from Blue Jay, by Autumn.—Blue Sea, by Atbenic—Blue River, by Merriwee—Blue Water, by St Legcr. The Archery—Kitiroa filly Frasquita now bears a much improved appearance. She has not grown up a great deal, but has thickened out nicely, Kitiroa was foaled in 1902, and hence was well on in years when she produced Frasquita in 1025. \ . Blue Metal is being treated to an easy time at present. . .The Night Raid gelding Stealth is on the easy list, and will remain there until it is necessary to get him ready for next season. The rehandicap of 71b imposed on Buoyant in the Flying Handicap at Oamaru seems to bring him rather close to Meadow Lark. The Wanganui Jockey Club has in contemplation extensive additions to the present members’ stand in order to accommodate as many members as possible. The membership stands at something like 300. and the proposed extension to the first floor will, it is expected, give room for 209 more than the present structure can accommodate. It is a move that will be appreciated by members. TROTTING. FIXTURES. May 4.—Cambridge T.C May 4.—Oamaru J.C. (two events). May 9, ll.—Forbury Park T.C. May 18.—Oamaru T.C. June 1 3.—Hawke’s Bay T.C. June 1, 3.—Canterbury Park T.C. June 3.—Ashburton T.C. June 22. 24.—Auckland T.C. ■ By SEimmtL. Nominations for the Oamaru Trotting Cll * b 8 meeting are due on Monday. A. half-brother to Author Jinks is amongst those remaining in the New Zealand Trotting Derby. He is a chestnut colt got by , John Dillon. Reports from the north state that the Auckland trainer A. Julian has been slipping plenty of work into Special Bell lately ana this trotter will be produced at the Cambridge meeting. He won a race at the Thames just over 12 months ago. but there was not much merit in the performance, and the few starts he has had since have resulted in failures. Akenehi won in such hollow fashion at Epsom in February that her prospects of success, in the two-mile event at Cambridge will be considered rosy by a large number of light-harness enthusiasts. The grey daughter of Peter Moko (says “Abydos ) had failed on several previous occasions, but her high-class display at the park caused her " shares ” to soar to a high point. If Reter M'Kinney'trots as he did in the Taranaki Cup he will soon reduce the 144yds handicap at Cambridge, and anything in front wishing to keep out of his road will not have time to make mistakes. The old trotter went a couple of’ fine races on the recent trip, and on more than one occasion (says an exchange) was unlucky to miss paying n dividend. ’ Aquilin is the name bestowed on the two-year-old chestnut colt by Author Dillon in F. J. Owen’s stable at Addington while the Messrs Boyle have chosen Grand Canyon as the name for the Wrack—Nell Pointer colt recently purchased from Mr E. F. Nicoll. ■ Although there is still another payment of 6sovs to be made in October for the New Zealand Derby Stakes, , the acceptance of 34 horses must be regarded as very satisfactory. Up to the present (says the Press) few of the youngsters have raced, but it is pleasing, to note that Ngingo Ngingo and . Purser, and also Great Parrish, n very smart Aucklandowned two-year-old, are'still eligible, and the New Zealand ’Sapling Stakes, to be decided next month, should show up the chances of some others engaged. Of the sires represented in the race Drusus heads list with seven eligibles, Wrack has i, Sonoma Harvester four. Author Dilthree. Cathedral Chimes, Man o’ War.

Matchlight, and Guy Parrish two each, while the following have each a single representative:—Nelson Derby, Nelson Bingen, Silk Thread, Challenger, Travis Axworthy, John Dillon, and Rey de Oro. THE OAMARU FIELDS. Capital fields will be lined up for the two events at Oamaru to-day and in each case the winner is well concealed. No fewer than 18 horses are on the front of the Oamaru Handicap, and of these nothing looks better than Master Jack, a winner at Riverton, who has been doing good work since then. Others likely to be supported are Monopole, Grand Canyon, Last Pointer, Wild Bingen, and Bingen Maid. The favourites may be Master Jack, Grand Canyon and Monopole. In the saddle event B. Brice’s representative, Awa-Iti, may have the call over Harvest Girl and Routine. FORBURY PARK TROTTING CLUB. J-P_.v ie Beach Handicap Sunchild, Rita MTvmney, and Wilma Dillon are the ruling favourites.
