TOUR OF WEST COAST. RECEPTION AT WESTPORT. (Per United Press Asscoiatjon.J rpt . ■ WESTPORT, May 2. The Munster of Education (Mr H. Atmore) made a tour of the schools in Westport and the mining townships to-day, meeting deputations of school' committees in regard to local requirements, and this wa ?,s cc S r^< U l c * v * c reception by the Mayor (Mr J.H.Harkness), supported -by-Mr H. E. Holland, M.P. The Minister, in replying gave an in®P,ring address on education’s needs, stating that the existing education system, founded mainly on, the academic system of Oxford, and Cambridge, must be changed to meet the changing needs of the people. The individual aptitudes of the children must be considered, so that they, would have a mental equipment in beeping with their splendid physical equipment, . Deal.ing.with the question of junior high schools, he said he did not like the term, as.it suggested distinctions and snobbishness. He preferred the term secondary education. The Minister stressed the need for an education that would induce bright boy and-girls .to give more attention, to the pursuit of farming occupations.
