COUNTY ELECTIONS.
TO THE EDITOR Sis,—T was pleased to note the favourable comments made by “Diligentia” in your issue of the Ist inst on a letter written by Mr J. C. Smith, of Lovell's Flat, which appeared in your columns on the 24th ult. I endorse every word that “ Diligentia ” has written regarding that letter, and I support his further contentions, Too many of the members of local bodies are content to sit still and load the ratepayers with debt, through interest charges on loans. Many schemes in the interests of ratepayers are brought forward by councillors who have prevision. but these are doomed at the outset by our so-called “ progressive ” councillors. Many ratepayers consider that as long as the road adjacent to their property receives maintenance, all is well. May I tell the ratepayers that as sure as the present management of public bodies continues, just as surely, will there be a day of reckoning and they will have to pay the piper. We want men on our public bodies like Mr Smith, who have the practical knowledge and foresight to look into the seemingly dim future, —man who would do their best to _ avert the calamitous condition that is in the meantime slowly creeping on the ratepayers.—l am, etc., ~ Vigilant.
