FIGURES FOR MARCH QUARTER. DEPOSITS EXCEED WITHDRAWALS. (Special xo Daily Times.} . WELLINGTON, May *2. A marked improvement in the TPost Office Savings Bank figures is revealed in the returns which were gazetted today for the quarter ended on March 31. In addition to registering a greater number of deposits and fewer withdrawals the Savings Bank- returns disclose, for the first time for a considerable period, an excess of deposits over withdrawals of £390,640. This compares with the excess of withdrawals over deposits of £109,417 for the corresponding quarter of 1928. Districts of interest which returned excesses of deposits, over withdrawals are;—Gisborne, £10,379; Napier, £33,351; Nelson, £20,938; . New Plymouth, £80,077; Pelmerston North, £105,142; Wanganui, £39,370; Wellington, £31,493. j ° Of the other centres Christchurch and Dunedin respectively registered excesses of withdrawals of £49,953 and £35,095 while Auckland returned an excess of deposits of £56,287. ‘ Over the same period money orders to the value of £1,384,691 were issued, compared with £1,321,929 for the 1928 period, and money orders to the value Si oii£ 3 i 0 i o .’. 823 Were paid * com P a red with £1,245,113.
