Viscount Cecil, replying to a correspondent, who asked for advice as to how to vote at the general election, replied: “Disregard all party ties and vote only for candidates who can be trusted to stand for a vigorous and progressive peace policy. I would advise you to vote for a candidate of my party if the times were normal, but this country —nay, civilisation itself—is threatened with ah overwhelming catastrophe.”—Australian" Press Association.
