ASTRONOMICAL NOTES FOR MAY.

THE SUN. The sun's path during the month of May will be in K.A. from 2.32.45 to 4.31.25, in north declination from 15.0.45 to 21.53.19, and in longitude from 40.36.39 to 69.31.30. An eclipse of the sun takes place on May 9, and will not be visible in New Zealand, but will be visible in the Indian Ocean, parts of the Western Pacific, and Australia. The line of totality passes through the East Indies. THE MOON. The phases of the moon will be as follow; Last quarter .. 2nd 12.55 p.m. New moon .. .. Otli 5.37 p.m. First quarter ~ 16th 8.26 a.m. Full moon .. .. 24th 0.20 a.m. Last quarter .... Ist 3.43 a.m. Perigee lltli 7.36 a.m. Apogee 26th 7.24 p.m. THE PLANETS. Mercury will he in R.A. from 3.31.36 to 5.25.41, and in south declination from 20.52.34 to 22.39.58. It will he in conjunction with the moon on the 10th, and will be stationary on the 28th. Venus will be in R.A. from 1.21.53 to 1.47.11, and in north declination from 12.47.7 to 9.14.33. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 7th. it will be stationary on the 9th, and will be at its greatest brilliancy on the 26th. Mars will be in R.A. from 7.44.3, to 8.52.22, and in north declination from 23.9.55 to 19.7.6. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 14tb. Jupifer win be in R.A. from 3.11.41 to 3.40.30, and in north declination from 17.0.33 to 18.47.43. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 9 th, and with the sun on the 14th. Saturn will be in R.A. from 18.0.35 to 17.53.44, and in south declination from 22.13.27 to 22.13.2. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 25th. Uranus will be in conjunction with the moon on the Bth, and Neptune will be in conjunction with the moon on the 16th.
