CANADIAN CHALLENGER IN PORT. The Canadian Challenger arrived at Dunedin yesterday morning from Halifax, via Panama and northern ports. She was berthed nt the Victoria wharf to discharge a quantity of Canadian merchandise and load products. Tho vessel loaded at Louisburg and Halifax, and cleared the latter port on March 2. For the first five days the Canadian Challenger experienced very bad weather. Including gales, snow, and sleet. . SHIPPING AT PORT WAIKATO, Port Waikato presented a busv appearance last week. The steamer Gabrlella, 3009 tons, arrived on April 23 from Port Stephen, New South Wales, via Auckland, with a cargo of hardwood poles and sawn timber for power boards and county councils In the Waikato. Tho steamer John, from southern ports and tho Hauturu, from Onchunga, also arrived on their regular trips, and all three vessels were discharging at the same time. The Gabrlella Is the largest steamer that has visited Port Waikato, at least In recent years. After discharging she loaded a part cargo of white J pine timber, and left on April 26 for Darga- ; ville to complete loading. . The river steamers have been kept busy transporting the cargoes' up the Waikato River.
