NEW ZEALAND DRAUGHTS ASSOCIATION.
The first meeting of the newlyappointed Central Executive of the New Zealand Draughts Association was held in the Atbenannn on Saturday nigh*. The members of the Central Executive were elected at the annual meeting of the association held at Dannevirke during Easter, the executive appointing its own officers. At this meeting Mr P. C. Gray was ’ elected chairman and Mr James Bcecot secretary and treasurer for the ensuing year. There is a small balance in hand of £3 13s 2d, and also a trust account of £6O on deposit. The secretary reported that the annual championship tourney, which was held at Dannevirke during Easter, was a great success, both socially ■ and financially, over £IOO being distributed in prizes. Dominion players should be proud of the fact that their representative, Mr William Penman, who travelled to Brisbane to compete in the Australian championship tourney, was successful in winning that title, which he will hold for two years. The executive will/this yeai take control of the annual Town v.-Country Match, to he played during Show Week in June, and the following committee were appointed to work up enthusiasm and make arrangements—viz., Town— Messrs J. Beecot, W. B. Rendell, and C Rea; Country—Messrs R. Botting (Dunedin, late Country), W. O’Mullcy (Port Chalmers), and D. N. Wilson (Milton).
As the Country team may include any player in the Dominion outside of Dunedin, the Town will need to have its best players forward in order to win
