THE AEROPLANE MISHAP.

CAPTAIN CHANDLER INDISPOSED. (PEB United Press Association.) BLENHEIM, May 1. The Marlborough Aero Club’s Moth, which made a forced landing in the sea at Ship Cove, was little damaged by the impact. The plane waa punted to Picton last night, and was to be inspected to-day by the club’s ground engineer. Mr M'Donald is none the worse for his experience, but Captain Chandler will be confined to bed under medical attention for a couple of days. MR WILFORD’S MESSAGE. .SAFETY OF MODERN PLANES. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 1. There was one good feature of the mishap to the Marlborough Aero Club’s Moth, according to a telegram the secretary (Mr C. A. M'Donald), who accompanied Captain Chandler on the flight, has forwarded to the Minister of Defence. In reply to Mr Wilford’s message of congratulation to the airmen on their safe recovery, on receipt of the news of the discovery of the plane, the Minister telegraphed the airmen from Woodville as follows: “ Delighted to hear of your safe landing. I had every confidence in your ability to meet any emergency.” Replying to-day. Mr M'Donald expressed appreciation of the prompt measures taken by the Government in an endeavour to locate the plane, adding that the mishap had one feature, in that it demonstrated that in the hands of a good pilot the danger of a bad crash in a modern machine was infinitesimal. The weather conditions and landing facilities were both shocking, but Captain Chandler got the plane down safely.
