TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS

INSUFFICIENCY OF POSITIONS. PROBLEM FOR EDUCATION BOARDS. (Sfboui. to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, May 1. The problem, of finding some employment for the excess number of Training College students has been puzzling the Board of Education for some time., A suggestion to place them in positions without competition was not approved by the Minister in a letter read at this morning’s meeting. The Minister said he did not consider it advisable to adopt the suggestion; that boards should be allowed to give trainees their first permanent appointment without competition. He further stated that lie would make inquiries whether it was not possible to carry on ex-students as supernumaries, with salaries equal .to the Training College allowances, until such time as their services were required on permanent ,or relieving staffs. The chairman (Mr A. Burns) said that 154 ex-students of the Training College were not employed permanently, but 109 of that number had temporary positions. The letter was received.
