WAIKOUAITI COUNTY ELECTIONS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Your correspondent, “ Warrington,” asks the electors of Warrington and Karitane to support the candidature of Mr W. Taine in the forthcoming election in the interest of more progressive and better roads. Apparently the week-enders want paved streets and tar-sealed roads in these townships and the farming ratepayers to be saddled with a loan and increased rates. It is high time that rating the land for reading purposes was wiped out and the cost of tli£ maintenance of roads solely derived from the users' I hope that the farming ratepayers of the Merton Riding will support a candidate with some stake in the county and not one who would make progress by further taxing the already overburdened farmer. —I am, etc., Ratepayer. Merton. April 30.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— The letter by “’Warrington” in your issue of the 29th instant is indeed timely. There is no doubt that the time is rotten ripe for a change in the council. As a matter of fact, the whole outfitlock, stock, and barrel—should be cast out. Business men would not tolerate the present methods for five minutes. Blueskin Riding, is in far worse plight than is Warrington, and it-is to’be hoped that the electors will’rise to the occasion now that they have the opportunity and assist Warrington in bringing about a much-needed reform.—l am, etc., Blueskin.
