', The holder of the ancient Swedish post of king-at-arms is having a busy task examining all the coats of arms of various Swedish cities. In many cases seals that have been used for centuries, are now found not to be in accordance with the strict rules of heraldry. . Recently the coat of arms of the city of F-alun, where the_ ancient copper mine has been exploited by the same company since a.d. 1288, . was' declared to be out of order, inasmuch as the emblems symbolise a village /in . the Arabian desert rather than a Dalecarlian country town. The seal used must have been made by some ignorant designer in the past century, and is now to be remodelled. The city of Landskrona. the coat of am., of which dates from 1063, when the King prescribed its composition, has also been surprised by a letter stating that the colours of its coat of arms —in use for 275 years —have been wrongly disposed. The original sketch, which accompanied the royal charter, has been lost, and replaced by a design by a native artist, who did not know the rules of heraldry.
