THE HAND OF MOSCOW
PLOT DISCOVERED IN EGYPT. A PROPAGANDA CENTRE. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 29. The Cairo correspondent of The Times states: “The Egyptian authorities unmasked a seriDus attempt by Moscow to establish in Egypt a Bolshevist propaganda centre. The effort began two years ago when the Soviet opened negotiations to buy Egyptian cotton and offered guarantees. It formed a company, called Textile Imports, Ltd. Its operations at first appeared to be legitimate, but purchases began to dwindle. The authorities became interested, and found reason to suspect that the company’s agents wore engaged in propaganda in Egypt and neighbouring countries.. Suspicion chiefly centred on Alexis Vasilieff, who managed the agency. The suspicion deepenel when Vasilieff dismissed a real cotton expert and substituted for him a .newcomer named Huro Rudc-If. The police watched both and found sufficient evidence to justify arresting <hem. The whole plot was then revealed, largely from documents which were found in Rudolf’s possession, including his diary.”—Times Cable.
