DUNEDIN AMENITIES SOCIETY.
OPERATIONS FOR THE COMING WINTER. A meeting of the Dunedin Amenities Society was held yesterday afternoon. Mr Crosby Morris occupied the chair. A letter was received from the town clerk, advising that, in answer to a request from the society, arrangements were being made for the director of town planning to give an address in Dunedin at an early date. Mr Alfred Fels wrote suggesting one or two matters that might engaged the attention of the society, particularly stressing the need for an asphalt footpath along the Queen’s Drive from Mornington to Woodhaugh, the dust nuisance in the city,- and the litter of paper and rubbish that was too often to be found in the streets.—Tlie meeting decided to refer the matter of the footpath to the City Council, and to ask the Tramways Department to devise some, scheme to encourage the, public to use the receptacles for used tram tickets that were provided in the cars. The meeting also agreed to make an endeavour to have some receptacles placed at stopping places on the hill tram services. Works which the committee considered should be put into operation during the coming winter were discussed and approved. They were as follows:—lmproving St. Clair bank near baths by the planting of shrubs and flowers, £ls; planting hydrangeas on bank in Cargill street, £2O, residents to be asked to find £5; improvement of banks on Littlebourne road, £2O; planting trees at the top of High street, £2O; planting trees in Victoria street, £2; and two other small works at a total cost of £4. It was agreed that the society should offer to pay_ the City Council the sum of £•SO. if it would undertake to carry out this work.
