RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The meeting of the executive' of. the Dunedin . Returned Soldiers Association last evening was presided over by Mr A. M'Hutchon, others present being Messrs H. L. Paterson, W. F. Forrester. H, H. WaHter, P. S. Anderson. E. J. Anderson, A-G. Leeden, R, Holt, R. Fullerton, J. S. - , bkmner, A, J. Gordon, and G. H. Ferens. Nominations of eight new members ami; three honorary members were approved' and a transfer to Christchurch’was confirmed. The following sub-committees were set' up;, —Finance, club management, social,' billiards, lands, pensions, limbless matters, unemployment, and Poppy Day. The Lands Committee submitted a re- 1 port on tlieaetting aside of blocks of land' under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, and made various recommendations in regard to the policy of the association, in these matters that were considered m committee.—The report was referred back to the committee for further consideration. The secretary reported that the collection at the Anzac Day service at the Drill ; Hall totalled £79 Is Sd.—~lt waa the gene* ral opinion of the executive that the arrangements for Anzac Day had worked smoothly and that the service in the Drill Hall had been the best yet. An interim report was received from th0 T p r ganiße r of the Poppy Day effort (Mr j Pryceland the special sub-committee dealing with that matter. It was stated that the total receipts to date were £1929.—A resoluion expressing the association s deep appreciation of the services rendered by the organiser was carried by acclamation, and it was agreed that the associations indebetedness to all who bad assisted in the work should be expressed by means of advertised recognition in the daily papers. An invitation was received from the returned soldiers of Kaitangata for members of the Dunedin executive to be present at a meeting to be held in that town on May 4. It is hoped that a sub-associa-tion will be formed there in the very near future.-—The chairman, ■ the secretary,, and. Messrs Leeden and Walker were appomttd to represent the association. The secretary reported upon the case of a deceased soldier who had been buried recently at the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery. The matter.had been investigated, a* it had been made the subject of correspond-; ence in one of the, daily papers.—The action of the secretary ns reported was approved. \ ' The question of a social programme for the coming winter was brought up, and it was decided to ask the Social Committee, to submit recommendations at the nest meeting of the executive. It .was reported that v the Miniature Rifle Club had opened its season, and that it was attracting a weekly attendance of about 20 members. It waa stated that it was hoped in the near future to institute competitions with other Dunedin clubs, and, ■ later on, to challenge clubs from other centres.
