MORNINGTON RATEPAYERS.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The third annual general meeting of the Mornington Ratepayers’ Association was held last night in the Mornington Bowling Pavilion, Mr E. ,T. Congalton presiding over an attendance of about 30 members. CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS. In moving the adoption of the annum report and balance sheet, the chairman said that the Executive' Committee had found its work somewhat difficult during the year, on account of the district having no representative on the City Council. Nevertheless, a good deal had been done. The association’s efforts in the direction of having Mailer street extended had at last been rewarded, and the new road was now an accomplished fact, and would be a credit to the suburb when completed; moreover, the association did not propose to lose sight of the fact that a loan had been procured for the purpose of extending the tramline to Kenmurc road. Another improvement that lay to the credit of the associa tion was the filling in of the stormwater drain, and although considerable damage had been done in different parts of the district by the recent flood, he was glad to see that the Works Department was gradually .having repairs made. There was no question, said the chairman, in conclusion, that the thanks of the Mornington ratepayers generally were due to the executive committee and' the secretary (Mr C. E. Prycc), whpse' untiring efforts had resulted in- many benefits accruing to the district. Mr J, Torrance referred' to a clause in the report which dealt with the formation of a ticket for the City Council andpublic body honours, and said that in his opinion their association should not ally itself with other associations in support ing candidates who had looked with a lenient eye on such proposals ns the Arcade loan and the Public Library loan. In his opinion, the ticket was not formed by the ratepayer's so much as by the Manufacturers’ Association and other bodies of influential business men. Mr J. Taylor seconded the motion, which was carried. d OFFICE-BEARERS. The following office-bearers were elected: —President, Mr E. Thompson; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Patou and E. J. Congalton; committee—Messrs G. Meiklejohn, J. Lyttlc, D. M. Wildcy, R. S. M’Donnld, E. Salmond, E. Kenuelly, J. S. Swan, B. Jeffs, and I. Taylor (it was agreed that this committee hu\c power to add three more members to its number) ; Secretary, Mr C. E. Pryce; assistant secretary, Mr J. Taylor. At the conclusion of the election of office-bearers the newly-elected president took the chair and conducted the remainder of the business. Some discussion arose regarding a ticket for the various public body elections which was submitted to the meeting, and which purported to be the ratepayers and householders’ ticket. Mr Torrance again objected to this ticket, his protest receiving the. general support of those, present, who were generally of the opinion that the candidate for.the City Council who was resident in the district should receive the whole-hearted support of the association.
