OTAGO RUGBY LEAGUE.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The weekly meeting of the Otago Rugby Football League Executive was held last evening. Mr T. M. Gillies presided. The chairman said there were seven senior teams ready for the field, and the question had arisen whether it would lie advisable to confine the senior competition to six teams. The Kaitangata Club had entered a senior team, and this matter would have to receive every consideration. For one thing,. the entry of Kaitangata would involve . extra expense in some respects, especially as regarded travelling expenses. It might be possible to transfer one of the new senior teams to the junior grade. If this were done it would at least save a bye each Saturday.—Mr Watsou said he did not approve of any senior team being placed in the junior grade, as it was the duty of the executive to encourage the code in every way. He was strongly in favour of seven senior teams being accepted for tlie competition, and there should be no difficult}" in building up those teams which were now somewhat on the weak side.—lt was decided that seven teams be accepted for the senior grade competition, and that the flag matches commence on Saturday, May U. The secretary was instructed to advise the Kaitangata Club that one of the Dunedin teams would visit Kaitangata on May 11, if that date was suitable to the club for its first flag match. Mr G. C. Packer reported that no flags were .available at Chisholm Park last Saturday. He also stated that the door of the dressing shed had beer, forced open, and the padding 'On the goalposts was in a deplorable condition. This matter should receive immediate attention, otherwise there was a possibility of players being injured through coming into contact with the bare posts.—Mr M. H. Seddon stated there had been some misunderstanding in regard to notifying the man who had been appointed to look after affans at Chisholm Park. The ground certamlv immediate attention,— Mr E. M atson said he would guarantee to put the park in proper order for next Saturday, aiid the matter was.left iu his hands. ■ . Mr H. Divers, after reporting on the proceedings of the annual meeting of -the New Zealand League Council, held at Auckland on April 20, moved that in view of the fact that a team from New Zealand would not visit Australia this season, the Otago League urged the Dominion Council to consider the advisability of inviting the Sydney University Rugby League team to visit xew Zealand. Mr Divers said it would give the game a splendid life if a proper tour was mapped out., and matches were played in the South Island during September.—The motion was seconded bv Mr J. Kennedy and carried. The secretary of the Otago Amateur Cycling Club wrote asking if the League intended to agree to a series of cycle races being held during the interval' of each Saturday match on the Caledonian Ground. It was ptfinted out by the Cycling Club secretary that the races held last season aroused considerable interest among the cyclists—lt was decided the chib be allowed to hold cycle races on the same conditions as last year. Dr A. Reid wrote acknowledging his appointment as medical officer to the League. An option to lease a portion of the League s ground at South Dunedin was received from Mr R, S. Johnston, and it was resolved that the option be completed. Mr J. Montague was appointed to the Flag Committee during the absence of Mr W. Whitty, and Mr M. H. Seddon Was appointed to the Insurance Committee. SATURDAY'S MATCHES. The draw: for Saturday’s matches is as follows; Kaikorai v. . Pacific, Caledonian Ground, 3 p.m. (Mr G. Packer, referee). City v.
