Bundle, S.M.)' , DRUNKENNESS. ■ John Gordon Scoullar, who'was stated by the'police to be addicted to methylated spiritsj was charged with drunkenness, and, at his own request was ordered to be detained on Roto-Roa Island for a period not exceeding ■ 12 months. : , .MAINTENANCE. V■: ,: : Charged with disobedience -of ,a- maintenance order, the arrears•• on which' amounted to £32 10s, Joseph T. Erridge was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. the warrant to be suspended conditional on his paying £5. forthwith, -16 s per week off the current otder .and IQs weekly off the arrears until they are discharged; CHARGES'DISMISSED. •' , George Warren and John Jeffrey appeared on remand, each having .previously pleaded not guilty ■to two '.charges of obtaining money on false pretences.—At the original hearing. of the : case it' was stated that the two accused approached .two shopkeepers in South Dunedin— Francis Adam Pringle and Dorothy' Alexandra Strong—and by representing that they would advertise the complainants’ names and businesses on a programme'for the King Edward Theatre, which they proposed to issue, obtained from‘each‘complainant the sum of lOs.-r-After reviewing the evidence, tile magistrate,’ said that he was unable to find that any .false representations had been made with regard to advertising. The circumstances were certainly suspicious, but there was no evidence, to satisfy him that the two accused were guilty of false pretences. The charges would therefore be dismissed.'
