. * TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Great dissatisfaction has been expressed in Borne quarters with the'efficiency of those who occupied the position of Mayor and councillors of the city in the past. The charge of flagrant waste and mismanagement of municipal undertakings is being reiterated, but whether the, charge is .true,or not is a matter of opinion. The point to remember is that the electors have in'their own hands the remedy, and when they are about to exercise their votes they should be careful to see, that only those who are Vat fitted for the positioriß : are returned. It is worthy of note that so competent a critic as Sir Joseph Ward has said that our trading concerns -.are run more efficiently than in any other town in the Dominion. Therefore,, it seems reasonable, if we are to continue running our affairs on sound lines, that, we should return as Mayor a man..who has had considerable experience in matters municipal and not-one'who, though' possessing a worthy record',in other organisations, does not for one moment suggest that he possesses that commercial knowledge and.municipal insight 1 which are so essential 'and which, .1 hold, : are requisite in anyone aspiring to the \ position of Mayor.
