The entrance to the sandpit at Chisholm .Park having been blocked by the construction of the Tainui School, fence, authority has been given by the Reserves Department for the opening- up of another pit near by in the same locality where the removal, of sand will ultimately pro--vide a large, level area for recreation pur poses. Authority has. been granted for the regrading of the Queen’s . drive between Serpentine avenue and High street. The work will involve taking off about two feet at the highest point running out at the present level of the tram line. The estimated cost is £BO. ® . • The city engineer has been Instructed, to act in the matter of the construction of an intake and culvert at the junction at Earl’s road and Ravenswpod road to take charge of stormwater- which at present flows over the road and across private property. ' The estimated cost is £3O. Consideration has been given by the Works Committee of the, City Council to a petition ' from residents in Malvern' street, Woodhaugh, asking for the con-tinuation-of the .Leith 'walling to Pine Hill Orcfek bridge, and also urging , the necessity of cutting a channel from- the paper mills* bridge to the junction of the Leith and Pine Hill Creeks. - The petititiohers have been advised that the wall is a work which, will be considered as part ,of the permanent scheme ot protective works, and that the catting of the suggested channel is in hand, and is being pushed on as fast as possible.. Instructions have been given to proceed with the work of making alterations and additions to the Corporation Sanitary Department stables in Anderson’s Bay road for the purpose of providing a dressing room and bicycle shed for the employees. The estimated cost (£130) is provided for in this year’s estimates. TRAMWAYS COMMITTEE. The Tramways Committee reports, that applications have been considered, for (a) the issue of a 2s 6d school children’s monthly ticket on the Roslyn dine as on the city lines, and (b) the issue of a fourteen rides for Is ticket for children on the Mornington line. In the case of (a) this proposal has been considered several time, but the financial position ofthe Roslyn line precludes any reduction in the present scale of fares. Regarding the suggested, concession on the Mornington line, the committee .is of the, opinion that .the extension of the city concession of fourteen rides for Is ta the cable lines could not be justified in, view of the much heavier, cost of operating the hill.servicesl At present .the children; pay * ; ld for- tire full up ride, or twelve 'up rides for Is, and that seems a very reasonable concession.
