ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
WOMAN’S BODY FOUND. WASHED UP ON BEACH. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. The body of Annie Smith, a single woman of about 45 years o# age, residing with her mother at 10 Hawke street, New Brighton, was washed up. on the New Brighton beach two chains north of Lonsdale street at 10.30 this morning. The body, which was fully cldthed, was first noticed on the edge of the water by Mr A. Fletcher, who resides oh the Esplanade, New' Brighton. He summoned assistance, and the body was taken up on the beach. Dr Glasgow and Constable Henderson were called, and the doctor pronounced life extinct. The body was still supple and had evidently not been long in the water. The woman’s hat was washed up some yards from the spot .where the body was found. It was stated that no woman had gone on to the pier. that morning. Miss Smith was, until a short time ago, in the service of Mr H. P. Stevens, of Page’s road, where she had been for a number of years. She left home about 9 o’clock this morning to go to the city. The inquest was opened this afternoon and adj burned till Tuesday. FOOTBALLER INJURED. Gordon M‘Gregor, a. 14-year-old lad, suffered a fractured right clavicle while playing football for the Kaikorai Fourth Grade team on Saturday afternoon. He was admitted to the Hospital at 3.45 p.m.
